DESCRIPTION:Victoria Inn\, 1880 Wellington Ave\, Winnipeg.   \n\n\n\nPlease call 204-786-4801 and reference group code 362922 to book your guest room. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheryl Christian from GovFox will be facilitating this session. \n\n\n\nAs a a former mayor and councillor with almost a decade of municipal experience\, Cheryl brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this valuable session. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis professional development session is designed for Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) and senior municipal management staff to address a growing concern in local government: the challenge of encouraging strong\, diverse candidates to run for municipal office and ensuring councils are well equipped to lead effectively from day one. \n\n\n\nThe workshop is an interactive session\, using Mentimeter and training games/exercises throughout the day to engage participants and facilitate the learning process. \n\n\n\nThe education session is specifically designed by GovFox to help participants understand candidate outreach and development\, effective orientation and on-boarding and strategies to prevent and resolve conflict to make life easier for our administrators in these challenging times. \n\n\n\nThe morning provides training on the key elements of identifying and encouraging individuals to run for office at the local level. The characteristics and skills needed for effective leadership will be explored and discussed to help administrators consider how to attract these individuals to our councils tables. The barriers to participation in local leadership will be discussed as well as creative strategies to spark interest in council governance. \n\n\n\nThe afternoon agenda is structured to help administrators learn about more effective council orientation and onboarding. \n\n\n\nToo often council orientation is rushed\, one-dimensional or purely administrative. We need to on-boardcouncil members like a team\, not only addressing roles and responsibilities but creating a shared understanding around critical elements of leadership including communication\, conflict resolution and strategic think and goal setting. Administrators will come away from this session more equipped to help attract and develop community leaders\, deal with council conflict\, and create a positive focus on effective team building. \n\n\n\nMembers will receive 14 PD points for attending this session. \n\n\n\nMMA Cancellation Policy \n\n\n\n\nCompetency Alignment This session supports the  PLANS pillar of the MMA Competency Framework by strengthening competencies in  Strategic Management Leadership. It builds participants’ capacity to foster effective governance through candidate development\, council orientation\, and team cohesion. By addressing communication\, conflict resolution\, and strategic goal setting\, the session enhances administrators’ ability to create informed\, collaborative\, and high-functioning councils from day one—supporting stronger leadership cultures and more resilient municipal organizations.
