ClimateWest in a non-profit organization working on building climate resilience in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Please see the announcement below regarding a free training program.

Climate Ready Prairies is a a free training program and research study that aims to increase capacity in the region to effectively communicate and engage on climate preparedness, delivered in partnership with Re.Climate. Our Manitoba training is now open for registration and we thought that either yourself or someone from your team may find this opportunity valuable and relevant. Attached is more information about this training.

What’s in it for you?

Over the course of the training, participants will learn strategies and tools to:

  • Develop effective messaging tailored to the values of different population segments;
  • Meaningfully engage with diverse community members, rights holders, and other stakeholders, including those most at risk to climate impacts, in discussions on climate preparedness;
  • Gain buy-in from the community for actions that increase resilience to climate change.

We also hope to support you in connecting with other communication and adaptation practitioners in Manitoba to share knowledge and resources, and explore collaboration.

What to expect?

The training program offers two streams but we encourage participation in both to get the most benefit:

  • Communications Stream (1 x in person full-day training session and 1 x virtual 1.5 hour Community of Practice meeting)
  • Engagement Stream (1 x virtual half-day training session and 1 x virtual 1.5 hour Community of Practice meeting)

Our first in person communications session will be held on Tuesday, October 21 from 9 am to 3 pm at FortWhyte Alive’s Buffalo Crossing.

What next?

  1. Register here for the MB training program by Friday, October 3 (the form will enable you to register for one or both of the training streams and includes a statement of consent to participate in the research study).
  1. Once registration closes, keep an eye out for a pre-training survey, calendar invites, and a shared google folder to access your training materials.

To note:

  • Participation in this training program is by invite-only, and is intended for one person per organization responsible for communicating or engaging on climate preparedness. If you are not the right fit, feel free to share the registration with someone else in your organization. If you would like to have a 2nd representative attend, please email us and we can add them to the waiting list.
  • The content of the training will be used to create a resource guide for the region. Therefore, by taking part in this training and providing feedback, you are also helping inform the development of this guide to support widespread application (expected Spring 2026).
