Our Members are Professionals

As the association representing professional municipal administrators, the MMA requires all members to demonstrate the highest standards of public service. Our members are stewards of billions of dollars in public assets and responsible for the safe and effective delivery of municipal services on which the citizens of Manitoba depend.

Citizens entrust MMA Members with the management of their communities and the health and safety of their families. This is sacred trust and a great responsibility.

Membership in the MMA is a privilege enjoyed by municipal administrators who dedicate themselves to the professional and competent discharge of their responsibilities. Individuals applying for membership must meet eligibility criteria as set out by our Constitution prior to having their application approved. To remain a member, individuals must maintain the standards of conduct and professional development set out in our by-laws. Individuals who fail to maintain these standards are held accountable and may be censured, suspended, or deregistered from the association.

MMA Members in Good Standing are dedicated and professional municipal administrators who hold themselves to the highest standards of public service.

Members in Good Standing

Members are mutually accountable to each other through the MMA which was established by the Manitoba Municipal Administrators Association Inc Act, an act of the Province of Manitoba. The act endows the MMA with the responsibility to set out standards for membership and professional conduct, and it empowers the association to establish systems of member accountability to uphold these standards.

MMA Members in Good Standing are those who continue to meet the standards of the association, and enjoy the full benefits of membership.

To maintain their “Good Standing” status Members must:

• Be eligible for membership under the requirements set out in the MMA Constitution
• Adhere to the MMA Professional Code of Conduct as set out in By-law #2
• Maintain their skills and knowledge by participating in the required amount of professional development as set out in By-law #4
• Meet any other standards as set out by the association from time-to-time.

As required by the Manitoba Municipal Administrators Association Inc. Act, the MMA maintains a public register of all Members. Below is the MMA Member Register. Within this public register you will find the name of all members, recognition of their completion of the CMMA designation, and an accounting of their status with the association.

Member Accountability

Members who fail to maintain their membership in Good Standing status may be listed as being Censured, Suspended, or Deregistered. When concerns are raised about a member, the MMA Member accountability program provides for an internal membership review and a fair and transparent adjudication process.

Suspended Members are those members who have failed to maintain the eligibility requirements for membership, have failed to complete the minimum amount of professional development, or who have been suspended for a defined period of time as a result of their conduct failing to meet the standards set out by the association.

Censured Members are those members who have been found to have acted outside of the MMA’s professional code of conduct. Censured status will be established for a set period of time or until some prescribed action is taken by the member.

Deregistered Members are those individuals who have had their memberships revoked for a major violation of the MMA’s standards. Individuals who are deregistered may typically not renew their membership in the association.

MMA Members are accountable to each other, to their association, and to the Councils for whom they have worked. Complaints against a member may be filed by another Member of the MMA, the MMA Executive Council, or by municipal corporations via a duly passed resolution of council.
