Using Geographic Information System Mapping Technology for Efficient Municipal Management

A Workshop for Municipal Leaders

THIS SESSION WILL BE HELD IN BRANDON – VICTORIA INN

April 8 @ 9:00 am 3:00 pm

This workshop is for municipal leaders to learn about how mapping technology can support municipal
decision-making and operations. Mapping technology, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS), can be
applied to municipal operations in numerous ways:

  • Cataloguing municipal assets to support sound decisions on critical services
  • Connecting lots with ownership information for effective communication with residents (e.g.,
    Planning Act notices)
  • Supporting public works operations with information on transportation networks
  • Centralizing and tracking regulatory documents such as water use license applications and
    drainage authorizations, and
  • managing municipal developments.
Many municipalities have already made significant investments in GIS that can be leveraged moving
forward. This workshop explores funding and partnership options including practical steps to plan for
    and implement GIS technology.
